Park Fell

Park Fell isn't the kind of peak that'll stop you dead in your tracks from the car park, but the walk to the top rewards you properly. It sits just outside Carnforth, making it ideal if you're camping at Philpin Farm or one of the glamping spots nearby - no lengthy drive required.

The fell itself is modest by Yorkshire standards, but that's rather the point. You get moorland views without the crowds that descend on higher fells, and on a clear day the perspective across the Lune Valley is genuinely worth the effort. The walking is straightforward enough for most fitness levels, though it's boggy in places so decent boots matter.

Allow yourself two hours there and back if you're not dawdling, less if you're quick. It works brilliantly as a half-day outing wedged between other activities - you could easily knock this out before heading to Ribblesdale Pods or The Dalesbridge Campsite for an evening in their facilities.

Historically this area has centuries of fell-farming behind it, though Park Fell itself isn't burdened with the kind of archaeological drama you get elsewhere. It's simply a cracking vantage point. Families with teenagers will find it manageable, younger kids might get restless on the approach, and serious walkers could stretch it into a longer circuit taking in neighbouring terrain.

No facilities on the fell itself - you'll need to sort supplies in Carnforth beforehand. Early morning walks catch the light beautifully and you'll have the place almost entirely to yourself.
