The Severn Vale location means you're within reach of proper walks elsewhere too, so factor it in as one of several stops rather than the headline act.

Timing-wise, autumn is when the woodland actually sings. Spring's decent too. Summer's a bit muggy under all that canopy, and winter means you'll need decent boots for the mud. No admission charge as far as I can tell - it's the sort of place that exists quietly without much fuss. Worth a detour if you're passing? Absolutely. Worth planning a weekend around? Not quite.
