About Oxlip Coppice
This is fundamentally a spring visit attraction. Go in April or May when the oxlips are out and it's genuinely lovely. Any other time of year and you're looking at a fairly standard woodland walk - nice enough if you're keen on birds or just need some green space, but nothing that'll set your heart racing. Allow an hour maximum, less if you're just popping in to see the flowers.
Families with young kids might find it a bit limited - there's walking and looking at flowers, and that's about it. But for botanists or anyone serious about wildflowers, it's worth the drive from Dorchester. The coppice is free and accessible as far as I can tell, though there's nowhere to park directly on-site so you'll need to use your initiative.
If you're staying at Chesil Beach Lodge Park just down the road, you could easily tack this on to a morning before heading to the beach. It's not a full day's entertainment by any means, but as a supplement to a Dorset coastal holiday it works perfectly well.
