Oval Clump

A small woodland patch just outside Witney, Oval Clump is exactly what its name suggests - a dense cluster of trees with a rather satisfying geometric shape when viewed from above. It's the sort of place that appeals most to walkers and nature enthusiasts exploring the Oxfordshire countryside, rather than anyone seeking a major attraction. The actual visit is straightforward: you walk through, spot whatever birds and insects are about, maybe sit on a log if you're lucky enough to find one that hasn't rotted through. It takes perhaps twenty minutes to properly explore, longer if you're into your woodland ecology. The main appeal is really as a feature on a longer ramble across the local landscape. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Cotswold Edge or Cotswold View are both within five miles - then bundling it into a morning walk makes sense. It won't blow your mind on its own. Kids might get restless if it's the sole destination, though younger ones sometimes find dense woodland genuinely thrilling.
