Otford Mount

The walk up Otford Mount takes about twenty minutes from the village centre, and it's worth every muddy step. You're rewarded with proper views across the Weald - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can see for miles across Kent's rolling countryside. It's the kind of view that reminds you why people bothered to settle here a thousand years ago.

The mount itself is an Iron Age hill fort, though these days it's mostly grass and the odd interpretive board if you're lucky. Families with young legs will manage it fine - there's a clear path and the gradient isn't vicious. Older walkers should expect a bit of a puff on the steeper sections. Kids might find it underwhelming once they've reached the top unless you're into making up stories about ancient Britons watching for invaders.

Sevenoaks is right there, so it's easy to slot this into a walking itinerary. If you're based at Thriftwood Country Park or Gatehouse Wood just outside town, you could do this as a morning outing before lunch. The village has cafes to recover in afterwards. Honestly, it's a good leg-stretcher rather than a destination in itself - one to add to a bigger day out rather than drive across Kent specifically for.
