Ogden Reservoir

The walk around Ogden Reservoir, just outside Keighley, is a straightforward circuit that works well if you're camping at Upwood Holiday Park or any of the nearby sites around Hebden Bridge way. The reservoir itself is a proper Yorkshire water feature - nothing fancy, but decent enough for an afternoon stretch of the legs.

You get a decent moorland walk with views across the valley. The water's dark and reflective, surrounded by rough grassland and low hills. It's the kind of place where you'll see more walkers than tourists - locals know it well. The circuit takes roughly an hour without dawdling, maybe ninety minutes if you're in no rush and stop for photos. The paths are clear and well-trodden, though they can be muddy after rain, so proper footwear matters.

This suits families who want something gentle and achievable, and walkers looking for a break from the busier tourist routes. Kids won't be bored if they like being outdoors - there's water to look at, the occasional bird to spot, and enough space to run about safely. History enthusiasts will find less to grab hold of here than elsewhere in the Pennines, but that's not really what it's for.

Admission appears to be free - it's an open access area. Best visited on a clear day when the light catches the water properly. Wet winter afternoons can feel a bit dull and exposed. It fits nicely into a broader walking holiday in the area alongside other moorland reserves and the wilder stretches of the Pennine Way.
