Oakland Park

A modest green space on the edge of Thatcham that doesn't pretend to be anything grander than it is. Oakland Park serves the local community well enough - it's got the basics you'd want from a neighbourhood park: open grass, a few trees, pathways that meander without going anywhere particularly spectacular.

It's the sort of place where families with young children might spend an hour letting them burn off energy, or where dog walkers pop in for a quick circuit. History enthusiasts won't find much to sink their teeth into here. The park itself is functional rather than thrilling, and honestly, if you're visiting the area specifically for outdoor attractions, there are better bets nearby.

That said, if you're staying at Rhodeside Caravan Club - just half a mile away - or any of the other caravan parks within striking distance (Cherry Bird Country Park is four miles out, Bishops Green Farm six miles), Oakland Park works as a convenient stretch-your-legs stop without needing to load up the car. Free admission, obviously. You can be in and out in twenty minutes, or linger longer if the weather's decent and you fancy a bit of fresh air.

For a proper day out, you'd be better off exploring what Thatcham itself offers or venturing slightly further afield. But as an adjacent amenity to a caravan holiday? It'll do the job.
