Oakfield Farm +Campsite

A working farm with its own campsite - that's the whole appeal of Oakfield, really. You're staying where the animals are, which means early mornings if you're a light sleeper, but that's rather the point. The setup is straightforward: pitches scattered across farmland just outside Banbury, close enough to the town for supplies but far enough to feel proper rural.

Families with young kids will get the most from this. There's something about waking up to sheep and having the farm routine happen around you that beats a standard campsite by miles. Older children might find it less thrilling after the first day unless they're genuinely into animals and countryside life. Adults after peace and quiet will love it, provided they don't mind the occasional early-morning bleating.

The campsite itself is unpretentious - you're not paying for fancy facilities or activities, just land and basic amenities. Allow a couple of hours to settle in properly. It works well as a base if you're exploring the Northamptonshire countryside, and it sits nicely between the higher-rated Glamping Thorpe just 2.4 miles away and Coleman's Hill Campsite at 4.4 miles, both excellent alternatives if Oakfield's fully booked or you want something with more creature comforts.

Best visited spring through early autumn when the weather cooperates and the farm's in full swing. Winter's quieter but muddier - bring proper wellies.
