Oak Grove

Walk into Oak Grove and you're immediately in proper woodland - tall oaks creating a cathedral-like canopy, the kind of place that makes you understand why people get evangelical about trees. It's a working forest near Saxmundham, so don't expect a manicured nature reserve. There are trails running through, mostly flat and straightforward, which suits families who want a woodland ramble without the technical gear.

The appeal here is straightforward: fresh air, green spaces, and the chance to spot woodland birds and the occasional deer if you're quiet enough and lucky. It's the sort of place where kids will run about safely while adults actually relax. You could spend an hour ambling through, or three if you're the type to sit on a fallen log and read. No facilities to speak of - bring a flask if you want tea in the trees.

Given its proximity to Savage Glamping and The Croft Campsite, Oak Grove works brilliantly as a morning activity before heading back to your accommodation. It's the kind of forest that feels properly remote despite being close to civilisation. Not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but genuinely restorative. Worth the detour if you're staying locally, though I wouldn't drive from elsewhere specifically for it. East Anglia's strength isn't woodland walks - that's Cotswolds or Lake District territory. But if you're already in Suffolk, this does the job well.
