The highest point in Cambridgeshire sounds more dramatic than it actually is, but that's rather the point. What you get instead is a gentle walk across open countryside that actually rewards the minimal effort involved.

You'll find yourself on rolling agricultural land with decent views across the Cambridgeshire flatlands. On a clear day the outlook stretches properly, though don't expect mountain-range drama. It's the kind of place where locals go for a straightforward walk, and that's its honest appeal. The landscape here is understated - hedgerows, fields, wide skies - which suits Cambridgeshire entirely.

Walkers will appreciate this more than most. It's free, takes about an hour if you meander, and works brilliantly as a lunchtime outing. Kids under ten might find the actual summit a bit anticlimactic, though the walk itself is easy enough for small legs. History types won't find much reason to linger - there's no monument, no cafe, just the view itself.

Camping nearby at Shepreth Mill (2.3 miles away) makes sense if you're basing yourself in the area. It's well-reviewed and close enough for a morning walk before heading elsewhere. Royston itself has proper facilities and sits at a decent crossroads for exploring South Cambridgeshire. The High Point works best as part of a broader walking day rather than a destination in itself.
