Newclose Wood

You won't find crowds at Newclose Wood, which is precisely why it's worth the short drive from Kendal. This is proper woodland walking territory - the sort of place where you can actually hear birdsong without someone's phone going off nearby. The wood itself is fairly compact, nothing that demands serious hiking boots, but it rewards a gentle wander with decent views and the kind of peace you get when you've wandered just far enough off the beaten path.
