New Plantation

The woodland around New Plantation, just outside Shrewsbury, is proper walking country. It's the sort of place where you can lose an hour without noticing, following paths through mixed forest with proper breathing space between the trees. Nothing fancy - just well-maintained tracks and the kind of quiet you don't get near town.

Walkers will get the most from it. Families with young kids might manage a decent loop, though there's not a visitor centre or facilities to write home about. If you're after a straightforward woodland stroll rather than a destination attraction, this does the job. The ground stays reasonably dry even after rain, which matters in Shropshire.

It's ideal if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Love2Stay is barely two miles away, Springfield Riverside three and a half. You could knock out a morning walk here before heading into Shrewsbury town centre. Ebury Hill and Condover Park are both within easy reach if you're basing yourself that way.

I'd allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on fitness and how many wrong turns you fancy. There's no charge and no real reason not to stop by if you're in the area, though don't expect crowds or obvious attractions. It's one of those places that works best when you're not expecting much - just trees, paths, and the kind of peace that makes you wonder why you don't do this more often.
