Nessit Hill

Getting up Nessit Hill takes you out of Macclesfield's grip and into proper Peak District territory. It's not a mammoth climb - more a brisk walk that rewards you with views stretching across the moorland and down towards the valley. The summit itself is modest, nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. You're not queuing with crowds or paying admission fees; you're just walking up a hill and taking in what's around you.

It works best for people who actually like walking rather than those after a quick Instagram shot. The surrounding area is decent for stretching your legs between visits to the bigger attractions - you could easily pair it with a morning here and an afternoon somewhere else in the Peak District without feeling rushed. On a clear day the views justify the effort. Rain, though, and you're squinting through murk wondering why you bothered.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Kiss wood Cabins is closest at just over three miles away, or Peak Glamping Hideaway at five and a half miles - then Nessit Hill is a natural morning outing. It's the kind of thing you do because you're in the area, not because you've driven three hours specifically for it. Allow an hour or so depending on your pace and how long you fancy standing about looking at the view. Go when the weather's cooperating; there's nothing worse than a windy, wet hilltop.
