Neptune

Neptune is a contemporary art gallery tucked away in Godalming, the sort of place you'd walk past if you weren't paying attention - which would be a shame. The space itself is refreshingly unpretentious, focusing on modern and contemporary work without the stuffiness you sometimes get from galleries of this calibre.

Inside, you'll find rotating exhibitions that lean toward painting, sculpture, and mixed media. The gallery does a decent job of supporting emerging artists alongside established names, which keeps the programming genuinely interesting rather than formulaic. Depending on what's on during your visit, you could spend anywhere from thirty minutes to a couple of hours browsing, though it's not the sort of place demanding a half-day commitment.

It works particularly well if you're the sort of person who finds traditional museum collections a bit stuffy. Art students and creative types will get the most from it, though anyone with a passing interest in contemporary practice will find something worth their time. The Godalming setting is lovely for a gallery visit - the town itself has enough character to make a morning of it, and you're close enough to Little Cowdray Farm Glamping if you're basing yourself there for a wider Surrey break.
