National Trust - Petworth House and Park

The park here is what draws most people in - a proper landscape job, designed by Capability Brown himself back in the 18th century. You're looking at 714 acres of rolling grounds, ancient trees dotted about, and a lake that catches the light beautifully in the late afternoon. The house sits at the centre, all pale stone and obvious wealth, but honestly the grounds matter more than what's inside.

Walkers absolutely make up the core crowd, and fair enough - there are decent paths through the woodland and parkland, and you can easily lose a couple of hours without feeling rushed. The deer are genuinely worth looking out for. Families with young kids will find it pleasant enough for an hour or so, though there's not masses to do beyond the walking. History buffs might get more from the house itself, but that's a separate visit really.

From Pulborough it's a short drive, and there's enough here to pair nicely with a glamping trip at Wakestone & Wild or one of the other sites clustered nearby - Graffham's only three miles away. If you're staying at any of those, this makes a solid morning or afternoon activity without feeling like a must-do cultural pilgrimage. Admission costs but it's National Trust, so if you've got a pass you're sorted. Allow three hours minimum if you're walking properly, less if you just want to amble and take photos.
