Naseby Reservoir

The water at Naseby Reservoir sits perfectly still on a good day, reflecting the Leicestershire sky like a mirror. It's a proper working reservoir - built to supply water to the area - but don't let that put you off. The open water and surrounding fields make it a decent spot for a walk, especially if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Bunkers Hill Farm or Lakeview Glamping, both just 1.5 miles away.

You won't find fairground rides or cafes, but that's rather the point. It's the sort of place where walkers come to clear their heads, where you might spot water birds if you're patient, and where the horizon stretches properly in all directions. The walk around the perimeter takes a couple of hours at a leisurely pace - good for families who want something gentle, less so for anyone expecting a dramatic landscape.

Nearest town is Northampton, which puts this bang in the middle of the East Midlands walking country. If you're doing a caravan or glamping holiday in the area, it's worth adding to your itinerary rather than making a special trip for it.
