Nairn St Ninian's Church

St Ninian's sits just off Nairn's main drag, a proper stone kirk that's been quietly going about its business since the 17th century. The building itself is the draw here - solid grey sandstone, decent stained glass, and the sort of peaceful interior you don't get in many places these days. It's the kind of church where you can actually hear yourself think.

The real appeal is if you're into Scottish ecclesiastical architecture or just after a moment's calm while touring the Highlands. It won't eat up your afternoon - twenty minutes max for a proper look around - but it's worth the five-minute detour from Nairn town centre if you're passing through anyway. The churchyard has some interesting old stones if you fancy a wander.

Not one for the kids unless they're genuinely interested in history, mind you. They'll get restless quickly. But walkers and architecture types will find it a solid little stop. Nairn itself makes a reasonable base for exploring this stretch of coast - you've got Barrow Campsite just a couple of miles south if you're camping, and the town's got proper facilities.

Best visited during daylight hours when you can actually see the interior. Pop in whenever you're exploring Nairn - no faffing about with opening times or admission charges required. Just show some respect and keep the noise down.
