Auldearn Antiques

The road into Auldearn takes you past fields and stone walls, and then you're there - a modest collection of antique and vintage shops clustered in this small village between Nairn and Inverness. It's not a grand operation, nothing too showy, just proper local antiques dealing done without fuss.

What you get depends entirely on which shops are open and what stock's come in that week. Some days you'll find decent furniture, old books, china, and the sort of cast-off treasures that make antique hunting worthwhile. Other days it's slim pickings. The charm is in not knowing - that's half the appeal of places like this.

This works best for people who actually enjoy poking through old things without a particular target in mind. If you need themed attractions or guaranteed finds, you'll be disappointed. But if you're spending a week at Barrow Campsite in Nairn (just over four miles away) or one of the glamping spots at ACE Adventures, it's a decent wet-weather option or a lazy morning's diversion. The Highland weather being what it is, having backup plans matters.

Allow an hour or so, maybe longer if you strike lucky and find yourself deep in conversation with a shop owner about some obscure item. No entry fee as far as anyone can tell - you just browse and buy if something catches your eye. Check opening hours locally before you go; village shops can be unpredictable.
