Mynydd Garthmyn

The walk up Mynydd Garthmyn rewards you with proper views across the Conwy Valley - nothing too technical, but steep enough that you'll feel you've earned the summit. It's the kind of peak that works brilliantly as a half-day outing when you're based in or around Betws-y-Coed, especially if the weather holds.

You're looking at a moderate hill walk, roughly 2-3 hours return depending on fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath. The path isn't signposted like some of the better-known peaks, which keeps the crowds thin. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might struggle with the gradient. Walkers after proper mountain scenery without the Snowdon circus will find this far more appealing.

The real draw is the isolation. You get views south towards the Snowdonia peaks and across to the Carneddau without feeling like you're queuing for a photo. Bring a map though - the summit area can be confusing in mist, and there's no visitor centre or facilities at the top. Free to climb, naturally, and open year-round.
