You'd be forgiven for driving past this place without noticing - it's tucked away just outside Newark, and the signage is modest. But if you've got any interest in equine history, the Museum of the Horse is absolutely worth stopping for. It's a working collection housed in what feels like a proper old stable yard, with everything from harnesses and saddles to carriages and working implements that'll give you a real sense of how horses shaped everyday life in the East Midlands.

The museum works best for people who actually care about horses - whether that's riders, history buffs, or anyone fascinated by rural heritage. Kids might find the first twenty minutes interesting, but they'll likely get restless after that unless they're particularly keen on the subject. Adults tend to spend a good hour here, poking around the displays and reading the detailed information on each piece.
