Moulden's Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Witney, Moulden's Wood is the sort of place you'd stumble upon by accident and be genuinely glad you did. The trees here are ancient - oak and beech mostly - and in autumn the light filters through in that particular golden way that makes you understand why people bang on about English woodland. It's not a manicured nature reserve or a visitor centre with a gift shop. This is just woods: paths threading between trunks, leaf litter underfoot, the occasional bramble scratch.

Walkers will get the most from it, honestly. There's nothing theatrical about Moulden's Wood - no dramatic vistas, no ruins, no water feature. If your kids need constant stimulation they'll be bored within twenty minutes. But if you've got teenagers who actually enjoy being outside, or you're after a proper leg-stretcher before heading back to the caravan at Cotswold Edge or Grove Farm, it delivers. The walk works as a loop, taking anything from forty minutes to an hour depending on pace and how often you stop to look at things.

It's free, it's open whenever you fancy (being woodland), and it sits well within a Cotswolds-based holiday. Close enough to base yourself at one of the nearby parks and use it as a half-day jaunt between exploring Witney itself and hitting the bigger attractions further afield. Go when it's been dry - after heavy rain it's proper muddy.
