Moorhouse Coppice

Walk into Moorhouse Coppice and you're straight into proper woodland - the kind where light filters through in patches and the ground underfoot is soft with leaf litter. It's a forest rather than a manicured park, which means it feels like actual countryside rather than a visitor attraction with a car park and café.

The appeal here is straightforward: decent walking through mixed woodland on the edge of Hereford. You'll find yourself among oak and ash mostly, with plenty of space to stretch your legs without bumping into crowds. It's the sort of place where families with kids aged five and up will have a decent time hunting for sticks and climbing logs, though anyone after dramatic views or facilities should look elsewhere.

There's no admission charge that we can find - it's forest you just walk into. How long you spend depends entirely on you; forty-five minutes for a loose circuit feels about right, though you could easily do double that if you're the type to stop and potter. There are no marked trails here that we're aware of, so you need a bit of navigation sense or a decent map app on your phone.

Stay at Moorhampton Hereford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just 2.2 miles away and you've got a proper woodland walk on your doorstep. It's not the sort of place to plan a day around, but combined with time in Hereford city centre or one of the riverside parks nearby, it makes a solid half-day addition to a walking holiday in the county.
