Kenmoor Coppice

Walking into Kenmoor Coppice feels like stepping back into someone's private woodland - the sort of place you stumble across rather than plan a day around. It's a proper working coppice just outside Hereford, where the trees grow thick and the undergrowth closes in around you, blocking out most of the modern world. The paths wind through mixed woodland with the kind of peaceful quiet you don't get in managed parks.

This is best suited to walkers who actually enjoy forests for what they are - not spectacle, but solitude. If you're after dramatic views or signposted attractions, you'll be disappointed. There's no visitor centre, no café, no manicured beds. What you get is the real thing: coppiced woodland where the rhythm of forestry work shapes the landscape. Kids will either love it or get bored within twenty minutes depending on whether they're the type to build dens and hunt for wildlife.

It's free to access, though there's no official information about opening hours or facilities - the lack of infrastructure is rather the point. Allow an hour or so if you're local, longer if you're making it a morning walk from one of the nearby campsites. Moorhampton Hereford Caravan and Motorhome Club is barely a mile away, making this perfect for campsite-based visitors wanting an easy forest walk without driving. Best visited in autumn when the light filters through properly, or spring when everything's growing back. Winter's fine too if you don't mind mud.
