Monument Clump

Monument Clump is a small woodland near Witney that's easy to walk straight past if you're not paying attention. It's the sort of place that rewards a proper look around rather than a quick photo stop. The trees here are dense enough to feel like proper forest even though you're only minutes from town, and there's a decent network of paths threading through if you're willing to do a bit of exploring.

Walkers will get the most from it, particularly those doing a longer circular route across the Oxfordshire countryside. With a map and half an hour you can work your way through the trees and come out the other side onto open farmland - which is when you realise how much the wood breaks up the landscape. Families with younger kids might find it a bit underwhelming on its own, though it's fine as a stretch-the-legs stop between longer attractions.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I could find, so treat it as you would any working woodland - park considerately nearby and expect muddy paths after rain. The real value is in combining it with the caravan sites dotted around the area. Cotswold Edge near Ducklington is less than four miles away, which makes this a handy morning walk if you're based there. It's also a decent waypoint if you're rambling between Witney and the wider Cotswolds hills to the north. Not a destination in itself, but genuinely useful for breaking up a park holiday.
