About Moelfryn
It's the kind of hill that appeals to walkers after a proper workout without committing to a full day on the mountains. You're looking at roughly two hours up and down if you're reasonably fit, less if you're quick. Families with kids aged ten and up will manage it fine in summer; winter's a different story - the path gets proper boggy and exposed higher up.
There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit, so bring water and snacks. The walk starts from paths near Dolgellau town itself, making it accessible without needing to drive into the wilds. Lluwyn yr Helm, rated exceptionally well, sits just five miles away and makes an ideal base if you're planning to tackle this alongside other Cader Idris walks. Torrent Walk Campsite is closer at four miles.
Go early in the day if possible - the weather turns quickly up here, and afternoon mist can roll in and wreck the views entirely. It's free, obviously, and worth fitting in if you've got a morning spare.
