Moel Fodiar

The walk up Moel Fodiar takes roughly 45 minutes from the car park near Rhyl, climbing steadily through open moorland until you break onto the summit at 820 metres. On a clear day - and you'll want to pick one - the views across the North Wales coast towards Conwy and out towards the sea are genuinely worth the effort. The Conwy Valley spreads out beneath you, and on quieter afternoons it feels properly remote despite being so close to civilization.

It's a decent hike for families with older kids who don't mind a bit of elevation, though the paths can be boggy after rain so waterproof boots are non-negotiable. The terrain is heather moorland throughout, nothing technical, just relentless uphill. You won't find a café or facilities at the top - bring water and snacks. Most visitors allow two hours for the round trip including time to sit about and appreciate the view.

Walkers and hill enthusiasts get the most from this one. It's the kind of peak that rewards clear weather rather than relying on historical drama or visitor infrastructure.
