Standing at barely a quarter of the height of the London Eye, this modest observation wheel offers surprisingly decent views over Clacton-on-Sea's seafront without the eye-watering queues or prices of its famous cousin. The ride takes about ten minutes, giving you enough time to spot the pier stretching into the North Sea and pick out the holiday parks dotted along the coast.

Families with younger children seem to get the most from it - the gentle rotation keeps toddlers happy while parents can actually relax and take in the scenery. Teenagers might find it a bit tame, but it's certainly less intimidating than the bigger wheels for nervous riders.

The views stretch inland towards the Essex countryside on clear days, though honestly, the seaside panorama is the main draw. You can easily spot Valley Farm Holiday Park and Highfield Grange from up there, which is rather handy for getting your bearings if you're staying at either.

Timing your visit for late afternoon works well - you'll catch the best light for photos and it slots nicely into a day exploring Clacton's attractions. It's certainly not going to take up your entire afternoon, but as a quick diversion while wandering the seafront, it does the job. Worth combining with a walk along the pier or a visit to the beach.
