Birdwatchers will genuinely enjoy themselves here, especially during spring migration or winter when the visiting flocks bulk up. Families with younger kids get a decent outing without needing to plan military precision, though toddlers might lose interest once they've counted the ducks. The paths are flat enough for pushchairs, which helps.

Admission appears to be free, making it a proper no-brainer addition to a caravan holiday at one of the nearby parks - Valley Farm and Highfield Grange are both under two miles away. If you're based at St Osyth Beach or Seawick Holiday Park, this works as a half-day escape from the seaside crowds. Go early morning for the best light and quietest conditions. Bring binoculars if you've got them, otherwise just expect to see a lot of water and reeds, which some find meditative and others find a bit dull.
