Milton Sands

The beach at Milton Sands stretches wide and sandy just outside Kirkcudbright, with that particular Scottish light that makes everything look sharper and somehow more real than anywhere else. It's a proper working beach - fishing boats anchor offshore, the tide comes and goes dramatically, and you can walk for ages without hitting a dead end of promenade shops.

The approach to Kirkcudbright makes this a sensible stop if you're heading into town for lunch or to explore the high street.
