Milton Farm

You'll find Milton Farm just outside Perth, and it's the sort of place that rewards turning off the main road. This is a Neolithic settlement - we're talking five thousand years old - where archaeologists have uncovered evidence of some of Scotland's earliest farmers. The site itself won't blow your mind visually; there are no grand monuments or fortress walls. What's here is subtler: the actual foundations where people lived, worked the land, and built their first permanent homes in this part of Perthshire.

The appeal depends entirely on what gets you excited. If you're into archaeology or Scottish prehistory, it's genuinely worthwhile. You can stand where Bronze Age communities established themselves, see the layout of their dwellings, understand how they organised their lives. Kids might find it a bit thin unless they're already keen on that era - there's not much to do beyond walking around and reading interpretation boards.
