Millets Farm Centre

The sprawling farm centre just outside Witney is one of those places that surprises you - it's far more than a gift shop tacked onto a car park. You'll find working farm demonstrations, pick-your-own seasonal crops, and a decent play area that actually keeps kids occupied rather than bored within twenty minutes. The farm shop itself is solid: proper local produce, plants, and the kind of things you forget you need until you see them.

It works brilliantly as a half-day stop if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Lincoln Farm Park Partnership or Bablock Hythe are both within a short drive. Families with young children get the most from it, especially during picking season when there's something tactile to do beyond wandering around. Older kids might find it a bit tame, but the hands-on farm elements keep them from just trailing behind grumbling.

Admission is reasonable and the place doesn't feel rammed even in peak season, which is refreshing. Allow two to three hours if you're doing the activities properly - longer if you've got toddlers who move at a snail's pace. The farm shop's worth lingering in if you're after decent supplies for the caravan or holiday cottage.

Timing matters here. Visit during pick-your-own season and you've got an activity. Turn up in January and you're mainly looking at shopping. It's the kind of attraction that slots neatly into a wider Oxfordshire itinerary rather than being a destination in itself.
