Mill Pool sits on the edge of Knutsford, a proper local spot that doesn't shout about itself - and that's rather the point. It's a small lake, maybe a fifteen-minute walk from the town centre, where you can actually breathe away from the high street bustle.

What you get is a gentle circuit path around the water. Most people do it in half an hour without pushing, though you could linger longer with a book or binoculars if the mood takes. The banks are accessible enough, though muddy after rain - sensible shoes matter. It's the sort of place where anglers know it well, walkers pass through between longer routes, and locals bring dogs because dogs love it here.

Families with young children might manage twenty minutes before someone wants cake. Older kids and adults actually hiking the North West will find it a natural pause between the bigger draws. The water reflects whatever light you've got, which is pleasant rather than dramatic - nobody comes here for Instagram moments.

Free to access, obviously. No facilities to speak of, so bring what you need. If you're based at Pickmere Leisure Park or Royal Vale Caravan Park nearby, it's an easy add-on. Same goes for Greenfields Campsite. They're all within six miles, which means Mill Pool works well as a morning walk before heading elsewhere - not a destination in itself, but a quiet, worthwhile one.
