Metal palm tree

There's a gleaming metal palm tree standing in County Durham that stops you dead in your tracks the first time you spot it. It works best as a quick stop while you're exploring Durham itself rather than a destination in its own right. Timing-wise, there's no particular season that makes it better or worse. Just rock up when you're in Durham. Kids might find it odd rather than engaging, so come solo or with fellow art types rather than expecting it to occupy the under-tens.
