Melody Rocket

A steel rocket soaring upward from the ground at Jennetts Park - that's Melody Rocket, and it's genuinely one of those public art pieces that stops you in your tracks. Located just outside Bracknell in Wokingham, it's the sort of thing you'd drive past a hundred times and suddenly think, 'Right, what actually is that thing?'

The sculpture itself is a proper statement: built from reclaimed steel and standing proud against the sky, it's meant to evoke movement and ambition. There's something almost joyful about it, which is refreshing given how much public art can be so deliberately obscure. You can walk right up to it, circle it, and contemplate whether you think it works or not - no barriers, no faffing about.

It's worth a quick stop if you're in the area, particularly if you're camping at Scotlands House or Warfield Park nearby. Give it five to ten minutes rather than planning a journey for it alone. The real draw is that it sits within Jennetts Park itself, so you've got woodland and green space to explore while you're there. Families with younger kids might find it novelty value; older walkers will appreciate the walk through the park more than the sculpture.

Free to visit, obviously - it's public art. Best on a clear day when the light catches the steel properly. If you're staying at one of the local campsites, it's a straightforward detour worth making.
