Meall na Sèide

The walk up Meall na Sèide isn't long, but it packs proper views for the effort. From Crieff, you're looking at a straightforward ascent that rewards you with Perthshire spread out below - rolling farmland, distant mountains, the works. The peak itself sits at a decent height without being brutal, which means families with older kids and regular walkers will find it manageable.

What you get is genuinely good visibility on a clear day. The path is well-trodden, and the ground underfoot stays reasonable even after rain. Allow yourself two to three hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and how long you want to linger at the top. There's nothing technical about it - no scrambling, no exposure - just straightforward hill walking.

It's free, obviously, being a Scottish peak. Go early if you're visiting during summer weekends, as the car park fills up. Autumn's probably best - clearer air, fewer midges, and the light's rather lovely across the glens.

If you're based at Comrie Croft or Twenty Shilling Wood Holiday Park - both excellent spots - this works as a proper morning or afternoon jaunt without eating your whole day. It's the sort of walk that feels like you've accomplished something real without requiring mountaineering skills. Worth the detour if you're in Perthshire and want a proper hill with payoff.
