Meall an Tionail

The walk up Meall an Tionail from Ballater is one of those Scottish hill routes that surprises you - it's shorter than you'd expect but demands proper boots and respect for the weather. Starting from the village, you climb through mixed woodland before the path opens onto moorland with the Cairngorms sprawling across the horizon. The summit sits at around 900 metres, which sounds modest until you realise how relentlessly steep it gets in places.
