May Hill

Standing at 296 metres above the Teme Valley, this modest peak offers surprisingly wide views across three counties when the weather plays ball. The walk up from Tenbury Wells takes about 45 minutes through mixed woodland and sheep pastures, with a final steep push through bracken to reach the triangulation point at the summit.

Families with older children will manage the route easily enough, though the boggy patches after rain might put off anyone in white trainers. The real reward comes from the panoramic views - on a clear day you can spot the Malvern Hills to the east and the Welsh borders stretching westward. Dog walkers seem to love it up here, and you'll often share the summit with a few panting spaniels.

Come early morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewer people. The summit can feel properly windswept even on mild days, so pack a jacket. There's no charge for the privilege of huffing up here, and you could easily combine it with lunch in Tenbury Wells afterwards.
