Marie Curie Field of Dreams

The Marie Curie Field of Dreams sits just outside Sandown on the Isle of Wight, and it's exactly what the name suggests - a working daffodil field that transforms into something rather special come spring. The charity plants thousands of bulbs here each year, and between March and April the whole place erupts in yellow. You can walk through the rows, pick your own flowers if you fancy, and the money goes directly to Marie Curie's nursing care work. It's low-key stuff, but genuinely moving.

This is proper family territory. Kids love the picking element - there's something satisfying about snapping off your own bunch - and the Sandown seafront is only a few minutes' drive away if you need to stretch legs afterwards. The field works well as a half-hour detour rather than a destination in itself. Go midweek in early April and you'll avoid the worst of the crowds.
