Manor House (remains of)

The crumbling stones of what was once a proper manor house sit quietly on the Cumbrian landscape, a few miles from Keswick. What remains are foundations and fragments - enough to piece together that someone important lived here once, but not so much that you'll spend hours puzzling over every detail.

It's the sort of place that appeals to walkers more than dedicated history buffs. You stumble across it during a ramble, spot the ruins, have a poke about for ten minutes, and move on. Either way, treat it as you'd treat any historic site on open land: respect the space, tread carefully, and don't expect interpretation boards.
