Luxulyan St Cyriacus & St Julitta Church

The church sits on a gentle slope above Luxulyan village, a proper medieval structure with a tower that's been watching over these valleys for centuries. Inside, it's all soaring arches and cool stone - the sort of place that makes you drop your voice without meaning to. The dual dedication to St Cyriacus and St Julitta is unusual, which tells you this church has real roots in the parish.

It's straightforward to visit: the doors are generally open during daylight hours, and there's no charge to step inside. Allow twenty minutes or so to look around properly, longer if you're into ecclesiastical architecture or want to sit with the quiet for a bit. The churchyard itself is worth a wander, with some decent old gravestones scattered about.

This works brilliantly if you're based at one of the nearby touring parks - Mena Farm is under three miles away, and East Crinnis even closer still. It's the sort of stop that breaks up a holiday nicely rather than demands a whole afternoon. History types and walkers heading through the Luxulyan Valley will appreciate the building's setting. Families with very young children might find twenty minutes about the limit before restlessness sets in.

Bodmin sits just four miles away if you want to tie in a larger market town visit. The valley itself is lovely for exploring on foot, so combining the church with a ramble makes genuine sense. Don't expect crowds - that's rather the point.
