Lowick Beacon

The walk up Lowick Beacon rewards you with proper Lake District views without the crowds you'd find on higher fells. It's a modest peak - nothing extreme - but the vantage point across the southern lakes and down towards Grange-over-Sands makes it worth the leg work.

You're looking at around two hours there and back from the nearby car parks, depending on fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath. The route itself is straightforward fell walking rather than technical scrambling, so families with older kids and keen walkers get the most from it. The summit itself is unremarkable - a cairn and trig point, nothing more - but on a clear day you can see right across Morecambe Bay. Visibility matters here; if cloud's come in, much of the appeal vanishes.

Free to access, naturally. Spring and autumn are your best bets weather-wise, though summer crowds around Grange-over-Sands mean quieter parking if you go midweek.

If you're based at Old Park Wood or Newby Bridge Country Caravan Park, Lowick Beacon sits well within a morning's outing. Both parks are within five miles, making it an easy detour between longer hikes in the region. High Haume Glamping, slightly further out, gives you the same flexibility. The walk fits neatly into a park holiday where you want something accessible without committing the whole day to the fells. Not dramatic enough to justify a trip on its own, but genuinely good value if you're already in the area.
