Love the Sea Gallery

The Love the Sea Gallery sits in Kingsbridge, a proper working market town rather than a seaside postcard cliché. Inside, it's exactly what the name suggests - work by artists fixated on the water, the coast, the mess and beauty of Devon's shoreline. Paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs. Some are museum-quality, others are the sort of thing tourists buy because it matches their kitchen tiles, but that's the joy of a working gallery.

It's the kind of place you'll either spend forty minutes in or two hours, depending on whether you actually care about art or you're just sheltering from drizzle. The staff aren't pushy. There's rarely a crowd. If you're the sort who reads every label and talks about colour composition, you'll get something genuine here. If you're not, don't force it.

The location matters - Kingsbridge itself has enough going on (proper pubs, a fish market, actual shops rather than chains) that you won't feel cheated if the gallery turns out to be quieter than expected. It's five minutes from excellent camping at Wilton Farm, and within striking distance of Karrageen and South Devon Camping if you're basing yourself for a few days. The whole South Hams area - Dartmouth, Salcombe, Start Bay - is close enough for day trips.

Worth an hour if you're in town anyway. Don't travel specially for it unless you're serious about coastal art.
