Longforgan Church

The churchyard sits quietly beside the main road through Longforgan, just a short drive south of Cupar. It's one of those places you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it - a modest stone kirk with a squat tower, surrounded by tilting gravestones and mature trees that look like they've been there since the Reformation.

The church itself dates back to medieval times, though it's been substantially rebuilt since. Inside, the whitewashed walls and simple layout feel genuinely peaceful rather than sterile. There's a real sense of how these places functioned as the centre of village life for centuries. The churchyard, with its older stones worn smooth by centuries of Scottish weather, tells the quieter stories - the ones that don't make history books.

This isn't a destination in itself. You're not clearing an afternoon here. But if you're touring Perthshire and staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Snugs at Logie Farm is excellent and only twenty minutes' drive away - it's worth a fifteen-minute detour. Church enthusiasts and gravestone rubbers will find enough to justify the stop; families with restless kids will find it dull pretty quickly.

Go on a clear day when the light works properly on the stonework. There's usually a honesty box for donations if the place is open - hours seem flexible. Pair it with other stops in the Cupar area rather than making it a standalone visit.
