Norman's Law

The walk up Norman's Law takes about twenty minutes from the car park near Cupar, and it's proper rewarding. You're climbing roughly 300 metres to reach a hill fort that's been there since Iron Age times, though what strikes you most is the view across Fife when you reach the top. Clear days give you sight lines all the way to the Forth. The path itself is well-maintained and not brutally steep, though the final push gets a bit windy and exposed.

Walkers will absolutely get the most from this one. It's the sort of place where you want to loiter at the summit with a flask rather than rush back down. Kids aged eight and up tend to manage it fine, though younger ones might struggle with the last stretch. Allow a solid hour for the round trip if you're not dawdling.

Free to visit, naturally. There's something quite satisfying about Scottish hill forts that don't charge you entry - you just park nearby and go. The landscape is moorland and rough grass, so decent boots matter more than fancy gear.

If you're staying at Snugs at Logie Farm just under a mile away, or Annsmuir a bit further out, Norman's Law works nicely as a morning sortie before breakfast or an evening walk if the light holds. It doesn't eat a whole day, which makes it ideal for combining with other Fife attractions. The hill has proper history without feeling like a museum, and the effort-to-views ratio is excellent.
