You're rewarded with a small but striking mountain loch surrounded by crag, the water dark and still most days. It's not a casual stroll: the approach is demanding, and you'll need decent boots and a decent map. Most people allow two to three hours for the round trip, depending on fitness.

This is one for walkers who want a proper challenge, not day-trippers after a quick photo. If you're camping at Aberfeldy Caravan Park or Glengoulandie, it makes a cracking half-day expedition. The loch itself is a wild spot - no facilities, no paths around it, just mountains and water. Stay for twenty minutes and you've seen it; come for the walk itself and you'll get far more from it.

Timing matters. Early morning or late afternoon light transforms the valley. Midday can feel a bit flat. The peak season crowds that hit Glen Coe never reach here, which is precisely the appeal.
