Lochan Fenella

A small loch tucked into the hills above Crianlarich, Lochan Fenella is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The water sits calm most days, reflecting the surrounding peaks - nothing dramatic, but genuinely peaceful. There's a decent walk around it if you fancy stretching your legs, though the path can get boggy depending on weather.

This spot works best for walkers and photographers rather than families looking for activities. You won't find facilities or amenities here - it's properly wild. The real appeal is the quiet. No visitor centre, no car park, just lochs and Scotland doing what it does best. Allow an hour if you're walking the circuit, less if you're just popping up for photos.

The loch sits well within reach of the holiday parks around Tyndrum and Crianlarich. If you're based at Tyndrum Holiday Park, it's barely twenty minutes' drive. Beinglas Campsite is further but still manageable for a morning outing. Both parks offer good bases for exploring this part of the Lowlands - you've got Ben More nearby, and the whole Loch Lomond region opens up from here.

Worth the detour if you're after genuine solitude and don't mind rough terrain. Kids might get restless after thirty minutes, but serious hill walkers will appreciate the isolation. Go early morning or late afternoon for the best light on the water.
