Creag Bhocan

The view from Creag Bhocan's summit catches you off guard. You're standing on a modest peak near Crianlarich, nowhere near as famous as Ben Lomond or the Nevis, yet the Lowlands spread out beneath you with genuine drama. On a clear day you can see right across to the Trossachs, and the Loch Earn basin opens up to the south.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a scramble - most people bag it in under two hours from the car park. The path is well-trodden and manageable for fit families with older kids, though it's steep enough in places to keep you honest. Walkers gravitate here precisely because it doesn't demand a full day's commitment yet delivers proper views without the crowds you'd find on bigger mountains.

The real strength is how it slots into a wider Stirling area holiday. You're only ten minutes from Tyndrum Holiday Park, which makes it an ideal morning sortie before heading elsewhere. It's the sort of walk that occupies a couple of hours, then frees up your afternoon for Loch Lomond or the Trossachs proper. The hike itself is free, as are most Scottish hill walks - just find a sensible place to park at the trailhead.

Go when the weather's reasonably settled. Midges can be brutal in July and August, so May or September works better if you've got the flexibility. The views are what you're here for, and cloud cover makes this particular summit feel rather pointless.
