Loch Leven View Picnic Area

You'll find yourself parked up with Loch Leven spread out in front of you, the water proper still most mornings, mountains rising up on the far shore. It's a straightforward pull-in with a few picnic tables - nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. The view does the heavy lifting here.

This spot works brilliantly if you're camping at Invercoe or Red Squirrel just down the road and fancy breaking up the day without going far. Families with small kids will get a solid hour out of it - the loch's shallow near the shore, there's room to let them about, and the tables mean you can actually sit down with a proper sandwich without balancing everything on your lap. Walker types tend to use it as a waypoint rather than a destination, which is fair.

Ballachulish's a five-minute drive away if you need shops or a cafe, though honestly the picnic area itself asks very little of you. No facilities that I could pin down - bring what you need. The weather's the variable. Come on a clear day and you'll think you've found something special. Drizzle rolls in and it's functional but forgettable.
