Loch Letter

A proper wee loch tucked into the hills just north of Callander, Loch Letter is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The water sits dark and still most days, hemmed in by steep woodland that climbs away from the shore - it's got that peaceful Scottish Highland feel without requiring a five-hour drive north. The main thing here is the walk around it. It's not long - you're looking at under an hour for a gentle circuit - but it's properly scenic, especially if you time it right and the light's hitting the water just so. Walkers will find it rewarding. Families with young kids might do it once and call it done, though the woodland offers decent shelter if the weather turns. The banks are accessible enough that you can get down to the water's edge in places, which appeals if you're the sort who likes to sit and stare at still water for twenty minutes. It's free, obviously - it's a loch - and there's limited parking near the starting point, so don't expect crowds even in peak season. Worth combining with a stay at either Callander Woods or Keltie Bridge, both within a few miles and rated well by families. The loch itself is a decent leg-stretcher between longer walks in the Trossachs or lazy afternoons in Callander itself. Not life-changing, but solid value for an hour's time.
