Loch an Leoid

Loch an Leoid sits tucked away in the Argyll landscape, a quiet freshwater loch that most tourists driving through miss entirely. It's small - we're not talking Loch Ness proportions here - but that's rather the point. The water is properly clear, ringed by modest hills and rough moorland that feels genuinely undisturbed.

You can walk around it, though there's no marked trail as such. Bring decent boots because the ground's boggy in places. The eastern shore gives decent views back across the water, and on a clear day you can see the hills properly. It's the kind of place where you'll hear birdsong and not much else, which some people find meditative and others find a bit dull after half an hour.

Fishing types might get more from it - the loch has trout - but unless you're specifically after that, it's more of a pleasant ramble than a destination in itself. Near Taynuilt, so easily reached if you're staying at Loch Awe Holiday Park three miles away. That location gives you access to the bigger loch as well, which honestly offers more in terms of scenery and amenities.

Families with young kids will probably find it underwhelming unless they're keen on spotting birds or splashing about near the shore. Worth a morning visit if you're in the area and fancy something peaceful, but don't rearrange your itinerary for it. It's a nice add-on to a wider Argyll trip rather than a standalone reason to visit.
